Chris Haas Profile

Located in San Francisco, HAAS Architecture was established in 2007 by architect Christopher Haas. Prior to founding his new design studio, Chris spent five years collaborating with the Pritzker Prize– winning Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. During this time, he served as a Designer and Project Architect for the M.H. de Young Museum in San Francisco, a private residence in Napa Valley, and then served as Project Manager for the 1111 Lincoln Road development, currently under construction in Miami Beach, Florida.

Since 2007, the new studio has completed a private art annex for the Fraenkel Gallery, initiated designs for a multi-use project in Miami, and has completed several residences. In January of 2009, Chris was awarded the 2008 Artist Collaboration Award from The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation for his upcoming collaboration with Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, premiering in the Fall of 2010.

In addition to his practice, Chris has taught architectural design studios at the University of California at Berkeley and at the California College of the Arts. His coursework was awarded the 2006 NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of Practice & Education in the Academy, the nation’s second highest award for an academic course in architecture.

Chris completed his graduate thesis work at the renowned Staedelschule in Frankfurt, Germany, under the direction of Spanish architect Enric Miralles. He holds a Master of Architecture from Arizona State University, a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois and spent a year at the Ecole d’Architecture de Versailles, France.
